Ahead of New Garden Square being brought forward for consideration by Birmingham City Council, the preparatory work for the demolition of Edgbaston House, and the multi-storey car park at 3 Duchess Place, has now commenced.
These buildings are currently vacant and their demolition will pave the way for the new development once planning permission is achieved. At recent public exhibitions to display the plans, the proposals for New Garden Square received overwhelming support from local residents and businesses.
DSM Demolition will undertake this first phase of demolition, after taking possession of the site on 14th November. Works have now started to secure the area around the buildings and set up compound and welfare facilities, ahead of the partial demolition of the car park and internal demolition of Edgbaston House. The main building will then be demolished, floor-by-floor, from Spring 2017 – taking approximately 12 months to complete.
DSM is a considerate contractor and always works hard to ensure inconvenience for local residents is kept to a minimum, however due to the nature of demolition some noise is likely to occur. As an experienced demolition contractor, they have a track record of ensuring all the necessary control measures are employed to enable the works to operate smoothly, efficiently and in accordance with current guidelines and legislation.
Works will only take place between 7.30am and 6.00pm – Monday to Friday – although some occasional work may be necessary outside of these hours and with prior notice.
Billy Young is the Contract Manager from DSM Demolition Ltd responsible for the site, if anyone has any questions or concerns regarding the demolition they can contact DSM on 0121 322 2225. The telephone line operates 24hrs a day, 7 days a week.
Calthorpe Estates and U+I Group will submit a planning application for New Garden Square towards the end of the year. Once determined by Birmingham City Council, and demolition is complete, construction of this transformative development can begin.
